The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency allegedly grounded Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s chartered aircraft in Kano on Sunday.
The Rivers State governor was in town to pay a condolence visit to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over the death of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero when the incident occurred, Punch reports.
Former governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje, and a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, were reportedly also transported to Kano via the aircraft.
It is still unclear why the plane was
impounded. Nigerian Airspace Management Agency allegedly cited “orders
from above,” as the reason why the aircraft was seized.
